Chicago- and Hawai`i-born Native Hawaiians continue our practices together, chanting for the makana (gift) of a new day.
This oli (ceremonial chant) is delivered at sunrise, whether standing at the foot of Maunakea, a sacred mountain in Hawai`i,
or at the foot of skyscrapers on the shores of Lake Michigan.
We delivered this oli at the Adler Planetarium in September 2022. In 2019, Adler staff stood with us to protest the construction of telescopes on Maunakea.
