Chasing Eclipses

about the project

In 2016, the Adler Planetarium created the Chasing Eclipses exhibition in anticipation of the great solar eclipse happening on August 21, 2017. This was first total solar eclipse in the United States in 38 years. The last time Chicago was close to the path of totality for total solar eclipse was 210 years ago in 1806.

The goal of the media interactive was to create an experience of what it’s like to chase a total solar eclipse. I collaborated with the Exhibition Graphic Designer to create a smart phone interface that was displayed on a vertical monitor to act as if the visitor was receiving realtime text messages on the best places to see 100% totality. Visitors also were able to listen to audio of people sharing their first time seeing a solar eclipse.
