The Chicago Archaeopteryx Pepper's Ghost
about the project
This is the Chicago Archaeopteryx—one of only a dozen fossils of this animal ever found.
The Field Museum exhibition team created a life like animation using the pepper’s ghost technique of the archaeopteryx showing the different stages of it flying, drowning in a lagoon, being buried by sand, turning into a fossil, articulating into a skeleton, developing flesh and feathers. I collaborated with our in-house production and media integration team to prototype and build the pepper’s ghost setup for the Chicago Archaeopteryx exhibit. Our team and curator collaborated with Paleovislab to create a scientific 3D model and animation of the Archaeopteryx.
