Antarctic Dinosaurs Soundscapes

Antarctic Dinosaurs Exhibition — Soundscape Design Collaboration with Josh Beck

I collaborated with composer Josh Beck to design immersive soundscapes for the Antarctic Dinosaurs exhibition. Our goal was to create an audio atmosphere that enhanced the visual storytelling and guided visitors through two very different worlds.
The exhibition’s narrative spans two contrasting environments. The first gallery introduces Antarctica as we know it today — a stark, icy landscape. The second gallery transports visitors back in time, when Antarctica was part of Pangaea, a lush, temperate environment teeming with life. The sound design needed to support this dramatic shift while remaining cohesive with the exhibition’s overall aesthetic.

Working closely with Josh, I contributed to the conceptual direction and design of the soundscapes. For the icy present-day gallery, we developed audio that evoked stillness, isolation, and cold textures. For the Pangaea gallery, we transitioned into warmer, layered soundscapes that suggested biodiversity and movement, creating a sense of contrast and discovery for visitors.

The resulting soundscapes provided an atmospheric throughline for the exhibition, deepening visitor immersion and reinforcing the visual storytelling. The audio environments helped bridge the scientific narrative with an emotional experience, allowing audiences to feel the stark difference between Antarctica’s past and present.
